Cheap Memory Foam Mattress: The Do’s and Don’ts of Buying

There are a number of things we need to remember before waltzing into a mattress shop and simply buying any type of memory foam mattress we see. Before you undergo sales talk with a possibly cunning salesperson, here are some things you need to keep in mind when buying a mattress:

1.      Density is the key to a comfortable sleep. Make sure that the foam’s density is high enough to support your entire body. In order to know the density of the foam, you need to ask the salesperson for help and check the package of the mattress. A cheap memory foam mattress is most likely to have two to three pounds of density, while the average foam would have its density in between three to four and a half pounds. A higher-costing mattress, on the other hand, would have more than five pounds. The most ideal density, however, ranges from five and a half to six and a half pounds. It is the right amount capable of supporting the normal human being. It is, therefore, ideal to buy more expensive foam so that the mattress will remember its owner’s shape and will have a lower chance of returning to its original state after a certain amount of use.

2.      Read the mattress’s warranty information. Better yet, read it twice. Ask the salesperson regarding the details of the warranty. Ask for the shipping details, packaging facts, etc. Another thing you should look for is the manufacturer’s name. Take note of its name and ask how long has it been in business. If the company is new, it is most likely that a lifetime warranty it offers will be useless in the near future once the company closes.

3.       Some stores allow its customers to have a test period to see if their body is comfortable with the mattress. The shop, however, will cover the foam with plastic so as to maintain its quality once you return it to the shop. Therefore, you will need to see through the plastic if the mattress actually memorizes your body structure. Analyze the details carefully before deciding to buy the product.

4.      When talking about cheap buys, there are tons of them on the Internet. Do not hesitate to compare the prices of the ones in the Internet to the ones in the stores. Most of the time you will be able to find high density foam for half the price on online auction sites, so never miss to grab the opportunity. Make sure, however, that the seller publishes enough details regarding the product.

As consumers, it is our responsibility to have an awareness of the various products we buy. In order to know if it is highly ideal to buy a cheap memory foam mattress you need to weigh down the pros and the cons before jumping to immediate conclusions. Always remember, though, that nothing lasts forever, so keep in mind the fact that in the near future you will be replacing the product.
